NEPAL: Virtual Tour
The soaring heights of the Himalayan Mountains, the staggering beauty of the terraced fields, the warmth and beauty of the people, the rich history and the eternal intrigue of the culture all combine to make Nepal one of the most fascinating countries of the world.
Sandwiched between the fertile plains of India and the mountain plateaus of Tibet, Nepal is blessed with scenic beauty that is at the same time breath taking and inspirational. From the jungles of the south to the towering peaks of the north, Nepal offers the visitor a one-stop destination of adventure.
With eight of the world's tallest mountains, including the world's tallest, Mt. Everest, Nepal has become a heaven for trekkers and mountain climbers.
Yet, despite the rich scenic beauty, Nepal remains one of the most poorly developed nations of the world. Ninety percent of the population live out their lives as subsistence farmers, carving out a living on the steep mountain slopes.
Isolated by lack of roads and bridges, the majority of Nepalese are cut off from access to health care, quality education, vocational training and employment. Only 25% of the population are literate.
Lack of sanitation facilities and poor access to safe drinking water results in high rates of disease and death.
Because of a lack proper immunization and a poor knowledge of simple health care procedures the child death rates rank are high.
ADRA is helping the people of Nepal break free from a cycle of poverty and disease through agricultural training programs, and mobile and remote clinics.
Water and sanitation programs are established to save lives, then literacy and vocational training programs are created to give people a chance to improve those lives.
For many centuries, Nepal has traveled a road of isolation and hardship.
As our global village becomes more connected, the people of the remote country of Nepal become our neighbors, trading partners and friends. These girls look forward to a brighter future.
Thank you for visiting Nepal!
